A whole day packed with Οία fun

This morning Polyvios and I decided to make the whole Oia-tourist-stuff. First, Santorin is an island. And what do you do on an island? Right, sunbathing at the beach. Well, Santorin was is a volcano (and still activate, they told me) and therefore very rocky. Nevertheless threre are a few beaches. One of it is the Black Beach at Περίσσα with its black lava sand.

We were driving from Οία to Περίσσα within 30 minutes. Blessings to the man who rented the car! The weather was really nice although Polyvios was moaning it would be too cold ( the Greeks consider 27 ° as cold weather, obviously ). I can’t swim, but I even enjoyed the water.

After a couple of hours swimming we headed back to Οία. I wanted to go to Αμμούδι, the old little port belonging to Οία.

My omniscient travel guide recommended the Κυρά Κατίνα, one of the three taverns in the port. We tried the lobster spaghetti. I never ate lobster before so did Polyvios and we both were very curious about it.

I didn’t expect it to be that sweet, but it was very good. I still think and so does Polyvios it is one of the most overrated food. You pay for it per kilo, but mostly you pay for the shell. The more, you can’t eat it straight away. You have to crack the tinier parts of it open. And it was expensive. We paid a reasonable price for lobster: 106€.
After our very good meal, we wanted to stroll through Οία and its very narrow streets. Unfortunately, at some point we got stuck. The streets were packed with people. We didn’t know what was going on but a look at the time gave it away. It was 1,5 hours till sunset and nearly every tourist in Οία didn’t want to miss it.

No, that is not the queue awaiting the release of the new iPhone 6! And we were in the thick of it.

And then, the magic happened. You wouldn’t believe it! I am still completely overwhelmed that I was allowed to witness!! The sun did something totally extraordinary!!! At nearly 19:30 … pause for dramatic effect … it set!!!
